Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 13.5 km from Mount Castleton Plettenberg bay accommodation, along South Africa’s Garden Route.
Experience the wonders of Plettenberg Bay by immersing yourself in the captivating world of majestic big cats at Jukani.
Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Pumas, and Jaguars await your admiration in their forever home. These incredible animals have been rescued or rehomed from facilities that could no longer care for them.
At Jukani, they roam freely in a vast natural habitat meticulously designed to cater to each individual animal’s needs. There, they are liberated from exploitation and the stress caused by human interaction, allowing visitors to appreciate and capture their magnificence through photography.
Embark on an enlightening 80-minute walking safari guided by our knowledgeable experts. Along the way, you will encounter a diverse range of wildlife, including Raccoons, a Honey badger, Caracal, African polecat, Zebra, Springbok, and intriguing predators like the Spotted Hyena. The lightning-fast Cheetahs and agile, tree-climbing Pumas are sure to delight your senses.
Throughout the safari, you will discover hope in the concept of True Sanctuaries and gain awareness of the challenges faced by these animals. By making lifestyle changes and conscious choices, you can contribute to a better future for them.
Jukani has successfully secured the future of all its predator cats and wildlife. As the custodian of all Jukani inhabitants, the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (PBO Number 200/060 667/08) ensures their well-being. Funding is sustained through responsible wildlife eco-tourism, striking an effective balance between conservation and economic reality.
The wildlife sanctuary welcomes visitors of all ages and fitness levels, with wheelchair accessibility available. Regardless of weather conditions, the facility operates all year round, so please be prepared to get wet if it rains.
IMPORTANT: At Jukani, they adhere to a strict HandsOff policy, ensuring there is no interaction with the wild animals in their care. As the cats and other wild animals at Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary are sterilized, breeding does not occur, which means you will not encounter any baby animals during your visit. They firmly oppose the practices of the pet-play-and-pay industries.
While many places offer wildlife selfies and interactions, it is essential to recognize that wild animals do not thrive in noisy and chaotic environments. They certainly do not appreciate being harassed or passed around from one tourist to another.
Educating the youth and instilling in them respect and kindness towards animals is of utmost importance. While changing the behavior and mindset of older generations can be challenging, shaping the minds of the younger generation is crucial. Failure to do so will result in the extinction of numerous species before today’s youth become adults.
